New Route confirmed MEL-LAX

Saturday, 7 February 2009, Brisbane, Australia: During a stop in the City of Angels to celebrate with the locals as V Australia brings home its first sparkling new B777-300ER aircraft, comes the “heaven sent” news of the launch of non-stop flights between Melbourne and Los Angeles, offering Victorians direct access to the most popular gateway to the US West Coast.

Melbourne - Los Angeles is the third route to be announced by V Australia, this country’s newest international long-haul airline, which will launch three flights a week between Melbourne and Los Angeles from 15 September 2009^.

Virgin Blue Group CEO and Co-Founder, Brett Godfrey, said: “We just couldn’t wait to get home to let everyone who finds Melbourne a more convenient trans-Pacific departure point know that we will be bringing some healthy competition to a route on which only one other airline currently operates non-stop direct services to Los Angeles.”

“We know this is something people have been crying out for on both sides of the Pacific. Even in these tough economic times passenger traffic through Melbourne has been continuing to grow, so stimulating the destination further with more convenient, value-for-money, freshly innovative and high quality air services can only be a good thing for all.”

V Australia’s brand new 360-seat Boeing 777-300ER aircraft certainly offer a fresh change with in-flight bars, state-of-the-art entertainment, mood lighting and Business, Premium International and International Economy class cabins.

To kick off its third international route, V Australia today announced an introductory return Economy class sale fare of $1,199*, which will be available for sale from today for just four days, so get in fast! The fare is valid for travel from 15 September 2009 through to 9 December 2009. Everyday return economy fares will continue to be very competitive.

Virgin Blue’s V Australia airline will offer mobile calling, texting with factory-installed system

Boeing installed the Panasonic/Aeromobile system offered under the Panasonic brand eXPhone. All 777-300ERs in the long-haul fleet will feature the option. Meaning you’ll be able to send and receive text messages on your own mobile phone and use mobile data-enabled PDA devices (such as BlackBerrys and Palm Treos) just as you would on the ground.

The Panasonic eXPhone system incorporating AeroMobile connectivity technology operates without any disruption or disturbance the aircraft systems or ground communication networks. All you need to send and receive text messages is a global roaming activated GSM mobile phone, and for email, a mobile data-enabled PDA device or laptop. It’s that easy.

Delivery

On the 6. FEB Richard Branson took Delivery of V Australia's new 77W from Boeing in Everett, Washington. It looked like a beach party more than a aircraft delivery ceremony, the cabin crew attendants were in bikinis Friday amid fake palm trees before the plane took off in rainy weather for Los Angeles. Other celebrities at the ceremony were Australian actor Julian McMahon of the TV show Nip/Tuck.

That aircraft VH-VOZ was the first of seven completely new 777-300ER's that will be delivered to V Australia in the next couple of years. The 360-seat aircraft named "Didgeree Blue" with the blessing of the Yolgnu people from the Northern Territory Australia, includes in-flight bars, state-of-the-art entertainment, mood lighting and offers Business, Premium International and International Economy classes.

V Australia will use the 777's on six already announced routes (SYD-LAX, LAX-SYD, BNE-LAX, LAX-BNE, MEL-LAX, LAX-MEL), and a Sydney to Johannesburg route on a date yet to be set. V Australia will begin its Sydney-LA flights on February 27 and Brisbane-LA on April 8. Qantas and United Airlines dominated the Australia-US route in recent years but V Australia and US airline giant, Delta, plan to challenge.

I will keep you up-to-date on other updates!!
